CLIMATE CHANGE AND RENEWABLE ENERGIES

On 22nd November the two bilingual groups of ESO and some of their teachers attended a lecture given by Antonio Soler, a specialist in environment and energies.

The lecture was sustained by a powerpoint that made us clear the changes in the climate that Earth is suffering and the clean energy sources that we have to use more and more for a sustainable future.

The Climate Crisis is the greatest environmental challenge which never before the humankind has faced. With this lecture all students have learnt some keywords frequently used in Earth Sciences and understood the importance of being part in the solution of this problem, with serious economic, environmental, social and sanitary consequences.

The phenomena that the planet suffers are inmumerable and getting worse every day, so with this lecture we want to motivate the students to action. They have to be aware of the consequences that the Climate change affect us so much.

COMENIUS

Comenius is a European educative project in which IES Ramón y Cajal is involved during this academic year. Last October the students of 2nd B ESO took part of it creating  different posters (that contained English and Spanish information) about the following topic: European Union (EU) at a glance.

Some aspects we dealt with were:

-          What's the European Union?

-          Building the EU.

-          Member states of the EU.

-          Candidate countries.

-          Joining the EU.

-          Institutions and bodies of the EU.

Students learned a lot about this partnership. The main source they looked up was:

The posters were handed in to European teachers at the IES Ramón y Cajal. They visited us in October in order to exchange impressions and pieces of work about this topic and others.

SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION OF FEAR.

This piece of work has been done by Ana Montoya, a student of 2nd of ESO.
She has investigated about the scientific explanation of FEAR and she also wants to show us how she overcomes fear.

LIVING THE FEELING OF FEAR

Another powerpoint done by Carmen Moreno about the topic of the month: FEAR.
She has done it in English and Spanish at the same time. First of all she shows us what makes her be scared and how she can overcome the feeling of fear. Then she tells us the story about a man who died from fear, to end showing us some funfair attractions that scare her and some books and films that have made her feel deeply scared.

WHICH THINGS SCARE YOU?

This is a work done under the topic "FEELINGS THAT YOU HAVE WHEN YOU ARE SCARED".
The English teacher asked the students of 2nd year of the bilingual program to make some projects with the topic of the month "FEAR".
This powerpoint has been done by Irene Gonzalez and María Latorre.

HOW YOU OVERCOME FEAR

The bilingual group studying 2nd of ESO were asked to do some projects in which the feelings that we have when we are scared could be explicit. The topic was chosen because Halloween was arriving and all the students were motivated to work on it. All the students did quite good pieces of work - either power-points, scary stories or scientific explanation of what "fear" is.

The powerpoint about how you try to overcome fear is done by Vanesa Galindo and Sergio Buendía

HALLOWEEN EXHIBITION AT RAMÓN Y CAJAL'S HALL

As Halloween festivity was on the way, the English
and science teachers ask the students of the bilingual
program to colaborate doing different pictures and
masks to decorate the hall of the school.

The 1st of ESO group decided to make some drawings
that represent different costumes they'd like to wear
on that night. In the cardboards they described not
only the costume but also the physical appearance
and the objects that some of them take on their hands.

This group also painted some pumpkins
in the art class and their art teacher
made some fantastic pieces of work
for the exhibition.

The 2nd of ESO group decided to make some characteristic pictures for this time: haunted houses with bats and bright lights inside, ghosts, witches with cauldrons and pumpkins, black cats on roofs and scaring landscapes among others. They also made some masks and a person-height skeleton.

Apart from that in the English class the students could print some covers of terror books and films that they had read or watched.

Here we see the students and some teachers dressed up at the hall of the school.

The 31st October arrived and we prepared a party to celebrate it. Some teachers and most students disguised and we watched some videos and tricks that many people undergo on that day and night.
